Check out My Zucchini Pasta Maker!

I love pasta but tend to eat jumbo portions! There is something about pasta that just makes me want more … and more. So when I heard about the zucchini pasta maker from one of my clients, I knew I had to check it out. Of course, I know that zucchini doesn’t taste like pasta, but the thought was intriguing. Read on to see my video of me making pasta using the Zucchini Pasta Maker machine.

The machine is called the Paderno World Cuisine Spiral Vegetable Slicer (previously marketed as the Spirooli Spiral Vegetable Slicer). It  shreds, slices, and chops most vegetables and fruits. It has 3 interchangeable blades (large noodle, small noodle and slicing blade) and is easy to use, clean, and store. It was supposed to come with a booklet with more guidance and recipes … but mine never came.

How to use
Easy! Select the blade want to use and slide it into place. Make sure the suction cups of the machine are holding the machine firmly in place. Select a veggie. Try: summer squash, zucchini, English Cucumbers, beets, carrots, daikon radishes, young kohlrabi, parsnips, turnips, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, potatoes, large radishes, or an onion. Peel and wash it, attach it to the machine and start cranking! It’s fun and makes really cool looking
shapes of veggies (some fruits can also be used). I liked the pasta shaped made using the thinnest blade. But other shapes can be made as well. As per the website, make professional-looking garnishes, onion rings, potato nests, elegant salads, vegetable pizza toppings, and so much more. Vegetables can also be turned into thin, uniform slices, julienne strips or tiny cubes by adding cuts prior to slicing.

 Recipes using zucchini pasta
1. Sautee  a little garlic in olive oil, add chopped fresh and/or sun dried tomatoes and throw in the zucchini pasta. Cook a few minutes until tender. Toss with some parmesan cheese.

2. Sautee some garlic, ginger and scallions with a little sesame oil. Add a little chicken stock and a splash of soy sauce. Add the zucchini pasta and cook until tender.

3. Sautee the zucchini pasta in a little olive oil and add marina sauce (while your kids and hubbie has pasta)

4, Check out this recipe from Danielle Omar, RD, blogger at Food Confidence. She posted a recipe for Easy Raw Zucchini Pasta. She used this julienne peeler to make the zucchini pasta versus the machine I used  I tried her recipe  – it was easy, yummy and healthy!

Lastly, because this machine is fun to use and easy to clean, I think it can help you eat more veggies. No more boring sliced zucchini or carrots. Fill up on more veggies and fewer carbs. And if you have kids, I bet it will help them to eat more veggies too – once they see the pieces of veggies flying out of the machine. Warning for kids: the blades are very sharp.

Purchase the Paderno World Cuisine Spiral Vegetable Slicer here.

If any of you buy  the machine, let us know how you like it and share some recipes!
