ice-coffee.bmpWhat city girl can resist stopping in at Starbucks for an afternoon pick-me-up? There is nothing wrong with an afternoon jolt of java to help combat that 3 pm energy slump. Studies show that caffeine can increase alertness. The problem is when that java jolt comes along with 250 - 400 calories.

Here are some tips to slim your Starbucks:

1. Order nonfat or reduced fat milk instead of whole milk. This will save you up to 140 calories and 8 - 12 grams of fat.

2. Skipping the whipped cream will save you 120 calories.

3. Pass on the sweetened syrups (4 “pumps” = 80 calories). Ask for the sugar free syrup (0 calories) or add your own noncaloric sweetener (Splenda, Equal or Sweet n’Low) - or just one pack of real sugar (20 calories).

4. Pick up the nutrition information guide in Starbucks to check the nutritional content of your favorite beverages.
