False Claims from Weight Loss Pills Lead to Big $$ Penalties
One of my pet peeves is the claims made by some of the over-the-counter weight loss supplements. Their testimonials and claims make it sound like your fat will melt away if you pop one of their pills. Just take this one little pill and your belly fat will disappear. The problem is that these weight loss claims are not supported by any scientific evidence.
Well, finally the marketers of four of these products got caught with their little white lies. The marketers of four products, TrimSpa, Cortislim, Xenadrine EFX and One-A-Day Weight Smart have settled with the Federal Trade Commission. They have surrendered cash and other assets worth at least $25 million and agreed to limit their advertising claims. (Xenadrine EFX pays between $8 - 12.8 million, Cortislim/CortiStress pays at least $12 million, One-A-Day Weight Smart pays $3.2 million and TrimSpa pays $1.5 million. If losing weight were as easy as taking an over the counter pill, why would over 60% of Americans still be overweight? If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is not! Save your money.
